About D2R Save Editor / D2Emu Hero Editor
D2Emu Hero Editor is a free browser-based editor for Diablo II: Resurrected characters and stashes, part of the D2Emu site known for its Diablo Clone and Terror Zone trackers. There is nothing to install: you open the page, drop in a .d2s character file or a .d2i shared stash, or start a new character from scratch or from a template, and edit almost everything about it. As an online D2R hero editor it fully supports Reign of the Warlock, including the new Warlock class.
What you can edit
The editor is organised in tabs for inventory, stats, skills, waypoints, quests and the Chronicle, the collection log added with Reign of the Warlock, plus a Bound Demon tab for the Warlock’s demon. Equipment, inventory and mercenary gear can be changed, gold can be set to the maximum with one click, and inventories or stashes can be cleared. Stash files are handled tab by tab: the personal stash, the five shared tabs, the stackables tab and a temporary tab. That makes it one of the few tools that covers characters, items and the shared stash in one place.
Using it as a D2R item editor
Most players come for items. The editor lets you place gear on a character or in the stash, which is useful for testing a build with specific uniques or runewords before farming them, restoring items lost to a crash, or setting up a character for a challenge run. Because changes are written into a real save file, the usual rules apply: keep item stats within what the game can actually roll, or the item may behave strangely or the save may fail to load.
Loading, saving and sharing
Open the editor on the D2Emu website, then drag your save from the D2R save folder onto the page or pick a template. When you are done, use Download Save for the character or Download Stash for the shared stash file and copy the result back into the save folder while the game is closed. A Save + Share option creates a link to the edited character, which is handy for showing a build to friends. Note that the page sends files to D2Emu’s own server for parsing rather than processing them only in your browser, so if you prefer to keep saves entirely on your computer, a desktop editor is the better choice.
Limitations and safety
The tool is for offline single-player characters only; Battle.net characters are stored on Blizzard’s servers and cannot be edited. Always keep a copy of the original save before replacing it, and test edited characters in game before deleting the backup. The site is free and supported by advertising, with optional ad-free support and a Discord login for community features. Its server-side build was last updated in August 2026, which matches its quick support for the expansion.
Alternatives
For the safest character and skill edits with review and automatic backups, use Halbu Editor, a desktop app that does not edit items. Another browser option is the D2Runewizard editor. Players of the D2R Reimagined mod need its dedicated editor, and classic LoD players need the older Hero Editor. To move existing items between characters without editing them, GoMule is the safer route.
Tips for a clean edit
Close Diablo II: Resurrected before downloading the edited file, because the game keeps character files open while it shows them in the menu. Edit one character at a time and keep file names unchanged when copying them back. If you work on the shared stash, download and replace the .d2i file separately from the character file. When testing an unusual build in the browser, create a fresh template character rather than editing your main one, so a mistake never costs you a long-running hero.
Who should use it
It suits offline D2R players who want a quick, install-free way to test builds, adjust stats or skills, equip specific items, fill a shared stash for testing or recover from a lost character. Players on Mac, Linux or a locked-down work computer also benefit, because everything happens in the browser. Players who do not want their save files uploaded should use a desktop editor instead.
D2 Horadric editorial view
D2Emu’s editor is the most complete free editor for Diablo II: Resurrected: characters, items, mercenaries, shared stash tabs and Chronicle in one browser page, with quick Reign of the Warlock support and easy sharing. Server-side file handling, advertising and the lack of a review step before saving keep it just below perfect, but for broad offline editing it is our top recommendation.
