D2R Reimagined Hero Editor is a free browser-based character editor built specifically for D2R Reimagined, one of the largest overhaul mods for Diablo II: Resurrected. Standard D2R editors do not know Reimagined’s new items, runewords and stats, so they misread or damage its saves. This D2R Reimagined save editor loads the mod’s own item data, strings and templates, so characters, gear and stash pages are shown and written the way the mod expects. It is an unofficial community tool maintained by Gildyboye, not by the Reimagined team.

What the editor covers

Character editing includes name, class, level, core stats, difficulty progress and the hardcore and expansion flags, with validation on direct stat input. A full skill tree per class lets you set skill levels within enforced limits and adjust unspent points. Inventory and equipment use a grid and paperdoll view with tooltips that show modifiers, and new items can be added from a categorised selector covering weapons, armour, uniques, sets and runewords. Quests can be completed or cleared per act and difficulty, waypoints toggled per act, and mercenary data and gear viewed and edited. A grail grid shows found and missing items, and a light-hearted Wheel of (Mis)Fortune picks random challenges for runs.

Stash, vault and grail tracking

Reimagined players tend to hoard, and the editor reflects that. Stash support covers multiple tabs, splits specialty tabs for gems, runes and materials, and includes item search across tabs. A separate vault system loads and saves .d2i vault files, searches across all pages and moves items between a character and the vault, with multi-page and quad-view layouts. Combined with the grail grid, this makes the tool useful for organising a large Reimagined collection as well as for editing.

How the Reimagined character editor works

There is nothing to install. The Reimagined character editor runs as a web app hosted on GitHub Pages: open the hosted editor, drag in a .d2s file and work in the tabs. Edits are applied to an in-memory copy and written out as a new file, so the original save is not overwritten by default. The app fetches current item data from the official Reimagined repository and falls back to bundled data if that fails. Sign-in through Discord, handled by Supabase, may be required for features that use remote data or persistence. The Nexus Mods page lists version 0.3 from April 2026, while the source repository received fixes for newer Reimagined versions in September 2026.

Limitations and known issues

The editor is unofficial, so Reimagined updates can briefly break it until the author catches up. Community posts mention that set items cannot be edited directly, that adding class-exclusive skills to items converts them into ordinary skills with class restrictions rather than true open skills, and that some advanced item editing is hidden behind an unlock phrase in the settings. Some users also downloaded the Nexus file expecting an app and found only a readme, because the editor itself runs online. As with every save editor, it is for offline characters only, and you should keep a backup of the original save before replacing it.

Tips for safe editing

Make sure your Reimagined installation and the editor’s data match: after a mod update, wait for the editor to catch up before editing important characters. Close the game before replacing files, keep the original save, and rename the exported file to match the character exactly. Test edited characters in game before deleting the backup, especially after adding items with unusual stats. If you only want to move items between characters, use the vault rather than editing item properties, since moving keeps items exactly as the game created them. These habits matter with any D2R Reimagined save editor, because mod data changes more often than vanilla data.

Who should use it

It is the right choice for anyone playing D2R Reimagined offline who wants to test a build, recover a character, adjust progression or manage a large stash. Players of vanilla Diablo II: Resurrected should use a general editor such as Halbu Editor, the D2Emu editor or the D2Runewizard editor, because this tool expects Reimagined data. For support, the author points users to his Discord and the Reimagined Discord server rather than the Nexus comments.

For D2R Reimagined players this is the only practical editor, and it is a capable one: mod-aware item data, a full skill tree, stash and vault tools, grail tracking and a safe write-to-new-file workflow, all in the browser. Its unofficial status, missing set item editing and the occasional lag behind new mod versions keep it in the mid range of our scale, but if you play Reimagined offline it is well worth bookmarking.
