About Rune Easy Upgrade for D2RMM
Rune Easy Upgrade for D2RMM is a gameplay addon for Diablo II: Resurrected that replaces the vanilla rune upgrade recipe — which requires gems alongside runes — with a simpler rule: two runes of the same tier transmute into the next one. It cuts out one of the fiddlier parts of rune-hunting without touching drop rates or anything else about the game.
Built by Jobus (Jobus0), this D2RMM rune upgrade mod requires D2RMM and was first uploaded in April 2022, most recently reaching v1.3.0 in February 2026. It has grown from a small utility into one of the more widely used rune-management addons on Nexus, with over 1,000 endorsements. Nexus categorizes it as a “Gameplay” mod.
How the recipe simplification works
The mod overrides the game’s standard rune upgrade formula, which normally asks for three lower runes plus a specific gem to produce one higher rune. In its place, two runes of identical tier combine directly into the next tier, with no gem cost at all. The author has described this as the mod’s core design goal: cutting the tedium of hunting matching gems out of an already grindy system, so players spend their time on runes rather than gem logistics.
Configuration, compatibility and installation issues
Later versions opened up the formula rather than locking it to one fixed rule. Since v1.1, low and mid-tier rune requirements can be disabled selectively, and v1.2 added a broader configuration overhaul that lets players tune individual tier costs instead of accepting a single blanket rule — including the option to restore the original three-rune requirement for players who want a lighter touch. A separate single-rune transmutation option exists for an even faster pace, but the author notes it is incompatible with Stackable Runes and Rune Downgrade unless its “Require Scroll of Identify” setting is also enabled.
A handful of early reports described the mod simply not applying despite being enabled in D2RMM. The author’s standard fix — run D2RMM as administrator and make sure Diablo II: Resurrected isn’t running during installation — resolved the issue for at least one player, though a second player later reported the same non-functionality even after trying that fix, without a documented follow-up resolution. A separate, older report in Polish described runes failing to combine at all; no public response is recorded for that one. Anyone hitting a similar issue should treat the administrator-mode fix as the first thing to try before assuming a deeper compatibility problem.
Version history and Reign of the Warlock support
The mod has stayed under active development for years: v1.1 added the option to skip low and mid-tier requirements, v1.2 delivered the full cost-configuration overhaul requested by players wanting more granular control, and v1.3.0 added Reign of the Warlock compatibility. The author has also confirmed in community posts that the mod continues to function correctly on current D2RMM releases, addressing recurring doubts from players checking whether an older mod still works on a patched game.
Installing the mod
The official Rune Easy Upgrade for D2RMM download is hosted on Nexus Mods and requires D2RMM. Extract the mod folder into the D2RMM /mods/ directory, enable it, adjust the tier-cost and single-rune options to taste, and click Install Mods before launching the game. The mod’s permissions allow modification, conversion, and asset use in non-commercial derivative works with attribution — full terms are on the Rune Easy Upgrade for D2RMM download page.
Who this mod is for
This mod suits players who find gem-hunting for rune upgrades more tedious than the rune-hunting itself, especially on characters chasing higher runewords where the vanilla gem costs add up fast. Because nearly every part of the formula is configurable, players can dial in anything from a mild convenience boost to a much faster rune economy, and can check the current default settings on the Rune Easy Upgrade for D2RMM download page before installing.
D2 Horadric editorial view
This is a mature, actively maintained addon with a genuinely large user base for a niche utility mod, and its configuration options have grown thoughtfully in response to real player requests rather than staying static. It does meaningfully speed up part of the game’s itemization grind, so it sits closer to a gameplay-pacing tool than a purely cosmetic convenience — but its scope stays limited to one recipe, and the author has kept engaging with installation problems and compatibility questions well after the mod’s initial release.
