About Stackable Runes for D2RMM
Stackable Runes for D2RMM is a quality-of-life addon for Diablo II: Resurrected that lets runes occupy a single shared inventory slot instead of one slot per rune, freeing up meaningful storage space for players who hoard runes toward runewords. It does not alter drop rates or rune values — only how much room runes take up once found.
Built by olegbl — the same author behind Expanded Stash (16×13) for D2RMM and Expanded Inventory (13×8) for D2RMM — this D2RMM rune stacking inventory mod requires D2RMM and was first uploaded in February 2022, most recently reaching v1.13 on 23 February 2026. It is based on the earlier “stackit” mod and includes optional enhanced sprite graphics inspired by the Better Rune Visibility mods.
How rune stacking works
The mod covers every standard rune, with a configurable stack size. Three Horadric Cube recipes handle the process: converting a single rune into its stackable form, converting a stackable rune back to a standard single rune when its quantity drops to one, and splitting one rune off an existing stack. Stackable runes display a quantity number directly on the item so players can see how many they are carrying at a glance.
Reign of the Warlock compatibility and known limitations
Version 1.12 specifically addressed Reign of the Warlock shared-stash compatibility after players initially saw crashes loading characters with stacked items following the expansion’s launch; the author published recovery guidance through a pinned D2RMM post so no runes were lost in the process. Two limitations are acknowledged by the author as game-engine behavior rather than mod bugs: stacks cannot combine across shared stash storage, and selling to a vendor resets a stack’s quantity display to its maximum rather than the actual amount sold.
Installing Stackable Runes for D2RMM
The official Stackable Runes for D2RMM download is hosted on Nexus Mods. With D2RMM installed, extract the mod folder into the D2RMM /mods/ directory, enable it, and click Install Mods before launching Diablo II: Resurrected. Players combining this with Light Pillars Expanded should place Stackable Runes below that mod in the D2RMM load order, and players who see icon or stack display issues after installing several D2RMM addons together should check for outdated mods that insert conflicting entries into the same configuration files, which has been a confirmed root cause in the past.
Known issues
A February 2026 update to v1.10 caused rune and gem stack icons to shift by one position on non-expanded save files, which the author traced to that specific save type and fixed on 16 February 2026; players who had already converted their character to Reign of the Warlock reported the issue did not affect them. Separately, at least one player resolved a stacking display problem tied to an outdated third-party high-rune drop sound mod by disabling it, illustrating how mod conflicts elsewhere can surface as bugs in this one. The author has also been actively developing a save-editor feature for manually adjusting stack quantities, which shipped by the 23 February 2026 update.
Who this mod is for
Stackable Runes for D2RMM suits any offline or modded player who collects runes for runewords and is tired of watching inventory space disappear one rune at a time. It pairs naturally with the same author’s Expanded Stash and Expanded Inventory mods for players building a full storage overhaul, and its Horadric Cube-based conversion system keeps the change reversible rather than permanent.
D2 Horadric editorial view
Stackable Runes for D2RMM is a mature, widely used addon — first released in 2022 and still receiving updates in 2026, including a same-month fix for a real icon-display bug and a proactive Reign of the Warlock compatibility pass. Its two acknowledged limitations are honestly disclosed rather than hidden, and its role as a load-order dependency for other popular D2RMM mods in this catalogue reflects how central it has become to the offline QoL ecosystem.

Pros

Cons
- Stacks cannot combine across shared stash storage — a game-engine limitation, not fixable by the mod
- Selling to a vendor resets a stack's displayed quantity to its maximum rather than the actual amount sold
- A February 2026 update briefly caused icon misalignment on non-RotW-converted saves before being fixed
- Can surface display bugs from unrelated outdated mods sharing the same configuration files
