About Singleplayer Runewords for D2RMM
Singleplayer Runewords for D2RMM is a balance addon for Diablo II: Resurrected that originally made ladder-only runewords available in offline single player, closing a long-standing gap between the game’s offline and online rulesets. The author has since confirmed this mod is largely unnecessary on current patches — as of Diablo II: Resurrected 2.6, every runeword is craftable in single player without any mods at all, because the “server” restriction column was removed from the game’s own runes.txt.
Built by olegbl — the same author behind Show Item Level for D2RMM, Guaranteed Drops for D2RMM and several other D2RMM addons — this D2RMM ladder runewords mod requires D2RMM and was first uploaded in April 2022, most recently reaching v1.2 on 13 February 2026. Nexus tags it “Gameplay.”
What the mod originally did
Before patch 2.6, several runewords introduced from Diablo II’s version 2.4 onward were restricted to ladder play and unavailable to offline single-player characters. This mod removed that restriction, letting single-player players use the same full runeword list that ladder players had access to, without changing item stats, drop rates, or any other balance mechanic.
Why it’s largely unnecessary since D2R patch 2.6
A player directly asked the author whether the mod still mattered after 2.6, and the author confirmed it plainly: “all runewords are craftable in single player with the latest version of D2R even without any mods,” since the server-restriction column no longer exists in the vanilla runes.txt. In practice, that means most players on a current, fully patched copy of the game get this mod’s entire effect for free and don’t need to install it at all.
Reign of the Warlock support and installation notes
Version 1.2 added Reign of the Warlock compatibility, and v1.1 updated the mod for 2.6’s changes to the runeword database columns — the same changes that made the mod’s core function redundant. A recurring cause of “it’s not working” reports has nothing to do with the mod itself: the author has had to repeatedly remind players to press Install Mods again after every game update, since D2RMM mods silently stop applying until reinstalled following a patch. The official Singleplayer Runewords for D2RMM download is hosted on Nexus Mods for players who still need it.
Common misunderstandings
Several players reported the Spirit runeword only granting individual rune bonuses instead of its full combined effect. This traces back to a base-game rule, not a mod bug: runewords only activate when socketed into normal (grey) base items, not into magic, rare, set, or unique bases — a distinction that trips up players regardless of whether this mod is installed. The mod also requires D2RMM specifically; the author has confirmed there’s no supported way to apply the Singleplayer Runewords for D2RMM download manually without writing the equivalent JavaScript yourself.
Who this still helps
This mod only has real value for players on an older, unpatched copy of Diablo II: Resurrected still running a pre-2.6 client, or for anyone verifying that their offline runeword list matches what ladder players had before that change. Players on a current, fully updated game get the same effect natively and gain nothing by installing it. Anyone unsure which category they fall into should check their current game version before grabbing the Singleplayer Runewords for D2RMM download and adding it to a mod list.
D2 Horadric editorial view
This addon did real, useful work for offline single-player characters for years, and its own author is the one who’s been most upfront that patch 2.6 made it redundant for current players — a level of honesty worth noting in its own right. It’s kept in this catalogue for historical accuracy and for the shrinking group of players still on older clients, not as an active recommendation for anyone on a current, patched install of the game.
Key Features
- Historically unlocked ladder-only runewords (introduced from game version 2.4) for offline single player
- Author-confirmed largely unnecessary since D2R patch 2.6, which made all runewords craftable in single player natively
- Reign of the Warlock support since v1.2
Requirements
- Diablo II: Resurrected
- D2RMM (Mod Manager)
Pros
- Did real, useful work for offline single-player characters for years before patch 2.6
- Author has been transparent and proactive about confirming the mod's current redundancy rather than leaving players confused
- Still useful for the shrinking group of players on an older, unpatched client
- MIT license allows broad reuse
- Actively maintained (RotW support added in 2026 despite the core function being largely obsolete)
Cons
- Provides no practical benefit on a current, fully patched copy of the game — the base game now does the same thing natively since patch 2.6
- Requires re-running Install Mods after every game update or it silently stops applying
- Requires D2RMM specifically, no supported manual-install path
- Runewords still only work on normal/grey base items regardless of this mod, a common source of confusion unrelated to it
